Weird and spooky stories told by people who explored the Dark Web.

"What's your Deep Web story?"

In simple terms, the user was asking people to share their strange or unusual experiences while using anonymous browsing tools to access hidden websites.

Services like Tor, which hide a user's identity and allow anonymous browsing, open the door to websites commonly known as the Dark Web. These sites cannot be accessed using regular browsers like Google Chrome.

One famous example is the Silk Road, a black market for illegal goods that was shut down. Its founder is now in prison, but the Dark Web has much more beyond the Silk Road. What else might be lurking out there?

Here are some strange and creepy things

you might stumble upon while exploring the darker corners of the web, shared by those who experienced them firsthand.

1. One of the primary reasons people visit the Dark Web is to buy things they want to keep hidden. But just how bizarre can it get? Users have shared some wild stories. While you can find everyday items on the Dark Web, what makes it illegal is often the way it’s marketed.

2. For example, one person found a DIY vasectomy kit for sale on the Silk Road: "It was a kit with weird dentist-tool-looking hooks and some tubing, priced at $20." Another user came across a "wish pill." The description promised that after taking the pill, you could make a wish, and it would come true. The seller even fabricated fake elements and showed ridiculous videos of how the pill was "made," which was just flashing blue lights. They were selling it for $100, and the sad part is, that some people probably bought it.

3. Some items have an absurd price tag, as one they explained: "A few years ago, I went looking for rhino horn for a story. One guy offered two horns for six figures. I had to pass."

You’ll also encounter vendors with a sense of humor. One dark web user shared: "Silk Road, circa 2013. I purchased what was promised to be a 'mind-blowing' experience. Two days later, I received a Dust Buster. No complaints."

4. You can find anything from counterfeit credentials like passports and degrees to Netflix and Hulu account logins. One Redditor even found fake medical degrees: "I considered buying one for 999 bitcoin, but realized that was over $50,000."

5. One of the most interesting services found on the Dark Web involves changing your identity. For $6,000–$10,000, you could purchase an American ID, passport, and driver’s license to start a new life in a different country.

And sometimes, people are selling things you’d never think to buy online, like carrots or pretzels. One user found a German man selling pretzels—just pretzels.

Despite Tor’s reputation for hiding identities, some users have learned that’s not always the case. One Redditor shared, "I posted a comment on a video, and when I returned later, someone replied, 'That is very astute of you, Mr. (insert last name).' I didn’t touch the internet for a week—my last name is very uncommon."

One especially creepy story happened before the days of Google. A user followed an online trail that led to a document that seemed to be written specifically for them. The message? "We see you."

6. The experience of the Dark web users who stumbled upon that eerie message is a chilling reminder of the risks and unpredictability of venturing into the deep web. What started as simple curiosity turned into an unsettling encounter where they realized they were being watched in real time.

The Dark Web is filled with hidden layers, and for every strange product or service, something far more disturbing lurks just below the surface. Whether it's illegal activity, sinister schemes, or unnerving interactions, it's a place where anonymity allows people to act without consequence. This sense of freedom draws some, but it also gives rise to the darker aspects of human nature.

7. In stories like the one shared above, it's clear that the more you explore the Dark Web, the more likely you are to come across something truly unsettling—creepy marketplaces, bizarre services, or a simple message reminding you that someone is watching. It serves as a powerful warning that while the allure of the Dark Web might tempt some, it’s not without its dangers.

8. For many who venture into these hidden parts of the internet, they leave with more questions than answers. But one thing remains certain:

The Dark Web is not for the faint of heart, and sometimes, it’s better to stay on the surface where things are a little more predictable—and a lot less eerie.
